Beach Day

We haven't gone to the actual beach many times here because we have a really nice pool at our apartment complex and because I'm lazy. But earlier this week, I decided there were a couple places I wanted to see before we left. The first one is Sunset Cliffs. There isn't really a beach for the kids, because it's all cliffs (see how it got its name there?) but they found a couple sticks and dug in the compacted sand while I took some pictures.

Sean said he was digging for fossils.

I took a video too

It was very beautiful there, but I was having some serious anxiety about being so close to cliffs with the boys. Matthew ran to the edge at one point to look at something and that was the end of that spot for me. My heart was racing like crazy as I reached for him. Luckily, he immediately obeyed when I screamed for him to stop.

Then it was off to Mission Bay. I took the kids to Fiesta Island in the bay. It's calm water and lots of sand. I felt more calm there. Even with people water skiing, the waves weren't strong enough to knock the kids over and it seemed like the boys could go a ways out where it was still shallow. They had a great time here.

Matthew made me some shell soup. He's so thoughtful!

Do you like my tan lines?

Sean swam through the water gathering up seaweed and moss and stuck it all in a hole he had dug. I'm not sure what the purpose of that was. We built a little stream and a dam. We collected some cool shells. I was actually impressed with the variety we found there. It was a good day.

We also had a little miracle happen. We were at the last stop light before getting to the parking lot at Mission  Bay. We had the windows down and there was a nice breeze going. It was blowing our parking pass (for our apartment complex) and I thought I should put the windows up, but ignored the thought. Then, as our light turned green, sure enough, the pass flew out the window into the middle of the intersection! I couldn't believe it! I went to the parking lot and flipped around to see where it was exactly and see how I could get it. It was right in the middle just laying there. I drove through the intersection and flipped a u-turn again and was trying to figure out what to do since there wasn't anywhere immediate to park. I decided I would just go to the parking lot and walk back to get it. As I was at the light to go back to the lot, a gust of wind picked up the pass and dropped it about 4 feet from the car. I jumped out and grabbed it and got back in the car in about 5 seconds. I high-fived the kids and put the pass in the glove box. Phew! It was seriously amazing and I was so glad that we got it back without too much fuss. Just another tender mercy!
