For St. Patrick's Day we went for a hike on Mount Nittany. There were lots of trails to choose from, and we chose the shortest for our kids' sake. The shortest one may not have been the easiest. There was a pretty good incline and plenty of rocks and fallen trees for the kids to climb over. They didn't complain too much, but did have to stop a few times to rest their feet.
The weather was perfect. The trail was all shaded by trees so I felt like we were kept cool that way. We stopped to have our lunch in a little clearing (one tenth of a mile to the lookout) because the boys couldn't go any further without food. On the last stretch, Sean tripped over a rock and fell hard. His ribs hit another rock on the path and he has a nice scrape from that, but he collected himself and we reached the lookout.
It was a beautiful, clear day and we could see all the way to our neighborhood. Sean recognized the football stadium right away. It was a perfect way to spend the day. Sean and Matthew were very friendly to everyone we saw one the trail. They kept saying "Good morning" and "Hi" and got lots of smiles and giggles from the college students that were also hiking. One couple stood out to him and we saw them twice. He wanted to follow them on a different trail and was pretty upset when we didn't let him. He said that he hoped he would see his friends again on the mountain so he could ask for their address. It's interesting to see who leaves lasting impressions on the kids.
