Our garden has been doing pretty well. Not amazing, but pretty well. I didn't commit to very many flowers this year because of our dear sweet puppy. She really likes digging, so hopefully next summer she'll be trained to stay out of the flower beds. Here are some pictures from the summer.
all mulched, just needs a fence (it has one, just not in this shot)
Here's the fence! Behind the dirty (but still cute) boy
This is my first year growing dahlias. They are cool!
Wildflowers and dahlias
Check out this perfect zinnia!
My veggies did ok. Most things grew, but then there were some duds. I'm still learning.
The back row is tomatoes which are doing pretty well. Right in the front in the cage are lentils. I tried them out on a whim and I like this plant a lot. The boys like harvesting and shelling them with me.
That cabbage plant is crazy! I finally pulled it out because it was crowding everything else out. I used a leaf to make a pattern in a cement stone. That was fun, since there wasn't a head of cabbage in that huge plant. Sheesh! I won't grow that again.
Left to right- broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage. Kale at the bottom left.
Yummy romaine and kale. I have loved going to pick a few leaves of kale to put in smoothies. It's pretty awesome. I'm going to try making kale chips this week too.
I love zucchini!!
I left town for a few days, so one grew bigger than I would have normally allowed. I made 8 loaves of zucchini bread with that sucker!
Fresh strawberries for breakfast have been so delightful this summer. I have plans to expand our strawberry box. I'm certain no one in my household with complain about more strawberries.
I decided to grow a couple sunflower plants by the front door this year. I forgot how big they get though!
They have started to fall over since they are getting so heavy. They do offer a little bit of shade from the hot afternoon sun.
I hope you enjoyed a respite from pictures of my children. They will be returned to the blog shortly.
