In July, we took off to visit family and see some sights along the way. We drove over 2,600 miles in 2.5 weeks. We started after work and stopped in Portland to stay with Jon's parents for the night to get a jump on the next day.
We're all smiles in the beginning
I can't remember which bridge we were crossing, but we enjoyed several sunsets on the road. All of them were beautiful.
Our first sight-seeing stop was Crater Lake.
The kids wanted to get closer to some squirrels, but there were many signs cautioning against climbing past the fences. I was feeling a bit nervous about my adventurous kids, and we all survived.
Testing boundaries.
I love all the different shades of blue.
I kind of love that my shirt matches the water.
From Crater Lake, we headed south to Reno for the night.
Jon did some work in the car. We were stopped for about 10 minutes at a construction site, which isn't bad for summer driving.
The kids are wonderful travelers. The read a lot, or just enjoyed the view. Occasionally they would get a turn to play on the ipad and they loved that.
Matthew provided a lot of entertainment too. He got hot and took his shirt off. Then he was cold, so he snuggled up under his blanket.
A little past the lake, as we headed into California, we started seeing lovely trees with reddish trunks. It was our own mini redwood forest.
The sun was setting as we were driving through a whole lot of nothing in the desert.
